Estamos no alto, cinco amigos, as mochilas abarrotadas descansam no chão. Felizes de cansaço, contemplamos a vista. Vamos acampar por aqui esta noite.
I want to share some of my favorite places, starting with the Three Canyon Lookout. It would be nice to hear about other people’s heart places too.
Lookout at the corner of Capivara, Capivari and Mosquito rivers, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil
In the heart of the high hills that build up Chapada Diamantina Range in northeastern Brazil, hidden inside deep canyons, lies the highest waterfall of the country – Fumaça or Smoke Falls. After a strenuous day hike, midway towards it, one arrives at this unique corner of the planet. From the top of a tall rock, there is a high lookout to one the most stunning views ever: to the left, just crossed, is the valley of Mosquito River, less striking, though greener, with its silent crystal water under shadow and over stone. Right ahead, chiseled on the moutain rock pack, the canyon of Capivara River and, at its back, the huge Capivara Falls tumbling down millions of gallons of water. And to the right, extremely steep and deep, the Capivara River Canyon with its iron-loaded red waters. On its walls, one can hardly understand how those plants manage to find earth to dig their roots into. We are high at the top, five friends, loaded backpacks rest on the ground. We are happily tired contemplating the awesome view. We shall spend the night here.
